How Does Pearl? Laser Resurfacing Work?

During a typical laser resurfacing session with this technology, small pulses of light are delivered into the skin, treating surface imperfections while the deeper dermal layers are gently heated. This controlled thermal heating stimulates the production of collagen to add structure and strength to aging skin.

The Pearl? laser resurfacing system can target multiple skin imperfections such as:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Brown spots
  • Acne scars
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Sun damage
  • And more!

In addition to creating improvements that are immediately visible after treatment, the subtle enhancements achieved with collagen stimulation can continue for six to eight weeks before optimal results are evident. This treatment is typically well-tolerated by most patients and is comparable to the sensation of small, brief pinches on the skin.

Am I a Good Candidate for Pearl? Skin Resurfacing?

During your consultation with Dr. Humes and our medical team, your skin will be given a thorough examination to determine whether laser skin resurfacing is the best course of treatment for you. Some contraindicating medical conditions may apply, and we will discuss all of your treatment options with you in order to help you achieve optimal results.

Is There Any Recovery Time?

While some laser-based treatments can require extensive healing time to accommodate redness, scabbing and peeling, Pearl? laser resurfacing typically only results in slight redness akin to a sunburn that fades within a few days as the skin begins to heal itself.

Results may vary, and multiple treatments may be necessary in order to achieve your aesthetic goals.

Pearl? Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pearl??

The Pearl procedure combines the impact of resurfacing lasers with the gentleness and safety of non-invasive procedures to treat aging and sun-damaged skin. Pearl reduces wrinkles, uneven texture and solar damage with fewer treatments and less overall recovery than other technologies to provide a healthy,

How does Pearl? work?

During the procedure, the top layer of skin is treated with pulses of light in a pre-selected pattern. The laser simultaneously sends heat to the deeper layers of skin to provide long-term benefits. A natural protective dressing forms on the skin, to minimize downtime during the restorative process. On day 3 or 4, this natural dressing will peel or slough off, leaving new, healthy, vibrant skin. In a short time, patients will notice overall skin clarity, smoothness and softness – all from a 15-20 minute treatment with only 3 – 6 days of ?social? downtime.

What is "social" downtime?

Downtime is the time spent recovering from a procedure. With “social” downtime, you can continue most normal activities. However, avoid scheduling this treatment for at least 7-10 days prior to any important social events.

What can I expect after a Pearl? treatment?

After treatment, your skin will look and feel sunburned. Your physician will recommend post-treatment care, including NeoCutis Bio-Gel to aid healing and Aquaphor to keep the skin moisturized. You will need to limit sun exposure for a few days after the treatment.

How many treatments are recommended?

We recommend 2-3 treatments spaced approximately one month apart to achieve the desired results. Other patients may need only one treatment. You may also want to consider follow up treatments as desired.

When will I see results? How soon can I wear make-up after a Pearl? treatment?

Results are noticeable by day 3 or 4 when the superficial tissue has peeled off, leaving fresh, new, healthy skin underneath. You may return to using make-up and active medical grade skin care products at this time.

Can Pearl? be part of a combination therapy treatment?

Yes, patients may choose to have a Pearl treatment followed by 3D Skin Rejuvenation, Titan, or injectables, or others. We will customize an appropriate treatment plan for you.

How does Pearl? compare to other laser treatments?

Pearl offers the most effective treatment to address fine lines, uneven texture and discoloration without wound care and the lengthy downtime required with certain Erbium and CO2 laser procedures. Compared to today’s fractionated technologies, Pearl offers noticeable results in just one treatment versus 4 ? 6 fractionated treatments.
