What Are Lip Fillers?

Lip fillers are a popular nonsurgical treatment for adding volume and fullness to the lips or smoothing away wrinkles that appear around the mouth. They contain a gel-like substance called hyaluronic acid, that is injected into key areas using a fine needle. Once injected, the filler “settles” into place, enhancing the overall size and shape of your lips.

Lip Filler Snapshot

  • Substance: Most lip fillers are made with hyaluronic acid. Although other options are available, they may not provide the best results.
  • Procedure: Treatment is quick, easy and performed in-office by our qualified injectors. Our lip fillers contain lidocaine to ensure your comfort during the procedure.
  • Downtime: Lip filler injections require little downtime; you can immediately resume your normal routine without any activity restrictions.
  • Results: Fillers are not a permanent solution for volumizing the lips, but they do provide results that can last about year or more, depending on which formula is used and how your body metabolizes the product.

At VITAHL Medical Aesthetics, we prefer lip fillers made from hyaluronic acid (HA), as it is a naturally occurring substance found in our body that helps plump and hydrate the skin. HA fillers are safe, well-tolerated by most patients and provide natural-looking results. If you would like, these HA fillers can be also dissolved with hyaluronidase to reverse the treatment.

What Concerns Can Lip Fillers Treat?

Lip fillers can help you achieve a fuller, more kissable pout, but they can also be used to address other concerns, from lines and wrinkles to an asymmetrical appearance. Some of the most popular reasons lip fillers are requested at our Denver medspa practice include:

  • Thinning lips
  • Asymmetry and irregular contours
  • Vertical lip lines
  • Wrinkles around the lips and mouth
  • Lack of definition
  • Flat lips

No matter what concerns you’re dealing with, lip filler treatments are completely customizable! The amount of filler used can be adjusted to achieve the desired level of fullness, and the injection technique can be tailored to your specific needs. This means that your lips will look natural and proportionate to the rest of your face rather than overly plump or fake. At VITAHL, we offer an array of lip fillers to ensure we can give you the perfect pout.

“Vitahl is the best! Nurse Abby did my lip injections and I am SO happy with them. I feel a lot more confident in my overall face because of her work, not just my lips. I’ve had lip injections before but I didn’t feel the same way. I liked them, but I didn’t feel like it balanced my features necessarily, I just felt like my actual lips looked nicer. Just goes to show how skilled she is! She really listened to my concerns and wishes and carefully sculpted them into something amazing!”

Lip Filler Options at VITAHL

Lip fillers provide an effective and nonsurgical solution for achieving fuller lips without going under the knife. While lip fillers are ideal for most patients, we recommend booking a consultation with one of our medically licensed professionals so they can assess your needs, goals and unique anatomy to develop a personalized treatment plan just for you.

At VITAHL, we offer several different lip filler options to address a wide range of concerns. Our go-to lip fillers include Juvéderm, Restylane and the RHA Collection — each able to provide stunning and long-lasting results tailored to your exact needs and preferences.

Juvéderm Ultra

Juvéderm Ultra has a lighter consistency and is commonly used to add fullness to the lips, giving patients plumper, more dramatic results. When injected into the lips, it restores a smoother, more supple and hydrated appearance that can last for up to 12 months. It can also be used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles that develop around the lips and mouth.

Restylane Kysse

Restylane Kysse is a newer filler specifically formulated for lip augmentation. It is designed to provide a soft and flexible result. Kysse uses XpresHAn Technology™, allowing the filler to integrate with your lips to provide a natural look and feel without affecting your facial expressions. It can be used to add volume and enhance lip shape, size, texture and color. Once injected, the results of Kysse can last for up to twelve months.

Restylane Defyne

Restylane Defyne is a versatile filler that can be used in various areas, including the lips. It is designed to add structure and definition to the lips, creating a more defined and contoured look. Defyne can be used to enhance lip shape, add volume and smooth out fine lines. The results of Restylane Defyne can last for up to 12 months.

The RHA® Collection

The RHA collection of fillers are made with a resilient hyaluronic acid and provide an excellent option for helping you achieve a plumper, more youthful-looking pout. These fillers are designed to adapt to your dynamic facial movements, so your results look flawless whether your face is at rest or in motion. Our favorite RHA lip fillers include the RHA 2 and RHA 3 formulas.

RHA 2

RHA 2 is the lightest formula of the RHA collection and is best suited for a natural lip plump. This dermal filler smoothes lipstick lines, improves volume and provides a softer, more subtle result compared to its competitors. When injecting RHA 2 into the lips, your results can last up to 12 months, but this may vary depending on your concerns and unique anatomy.

RHA 3

RHA 3 is a firmer formula compared to RHA 2. It provides more structure to create a defined pout. RHA 3 improves volume and symmetry to enhance overall facial balance. The longevity of this product varies depending on patient anatomy, but results typically last for a year.

The Lip Flip

Fillers aren’t the only thing that can help you achieve fuller, more kissable lips. At VITAHL, we like to stay on the cutting edge of the latest techniques and procedures, so we’re excited to offer our Denver patients the Botox lip flip, one of the newest trends in lip augmentation.

So, how does the lip flip work? It uses Botox — an anti-wrinkle injectable that reduces muscle activity in treated areas — to relax the muscles around the upper lip. This allows the upper lip to curl outward slightly, creating the appearance of fullness without adding volume.

If you have a gummy smile, an upper lip that disappears when you smile, or you like the overall shape of your lips but would like to make them a little more pronounced, the lip flip might be for you. During your appointment, our experienced injectors can assess your concerns and recommend the best solution for helping you achieve fuller lips and a more beautiful smile!

What To Expect From Your Lip Filler Treatment

We always start with a consultation to assess your lips and determine which product is best for you based on your desired outcome. Once the product has been selected, the injection process will begin. A pharmaceutical-grade numbing cream can be applied to the lips to minimize discomfort during treatment. After the numbing cream has kicked in, the chosen filler will be injected into the lip in small amounts, carefully sculpting your pout to achieve the desired shape and volume. The lip filler process takes about 45 minutes, including numbing time. Afterward, you’ll be able to return home and resume your normal routine with little downtime!

What Results Can I Expect From Lip Fillers?

After your appointment, you may experience some mild swelling and bruising at the injection sites. Swelling will reduce over the next few days, but may take up to two weeks to completely subside. You can apply cold compresses for 15 minutes every hour for the first 24 hours to reduce these side effects. While the filler is settling, do not drink from a straw or massage the treated area for at two weeks after your procedure — this may increase the risk of infection or cause the filler to migrate, leading to uneven results.

Lip filler results last from six to eighteen months depending on the type of filler selected and how your body metabolizes the product. We suggest making a two week follow-up appointment so your clinician can ensure the product is settling perfectly! Once you’ve achieved your final outcome, periodic touch-ups can help you maintain fuller, plumper lips.

“Katie did my Botox and lip injections and did an amazing job. She is a perfectionist and takes the time to make sure she gets things absolutely perfect. My lips have never looked so great.”
Emily S.

Combine Fillers With Botox!

For amplified results, may we suggest combining fillers with Botox, a neuromodulator ideal for softening the appearance of expression lines and wrinkles. By adding Botox to your lip filler appointment, we can add volume and tackle wrinkles in one session. In two weeks, your lips will be healed and your Botox will be set, thus creating the ultimate rejuvenated look.
