Enlarged Pores & Skin Texture

Smooth, Refined Skin Starts Here

Book an Appointment

Uneven skin texture and visibly enlarged pores can become more noticeable with age, especially as your skin’s natural renewal cycle begins to slow down. These changes may affect how your skin looks in different lighting and impact the effectiveness of your skincare or makeup products. What once felt smooth may start to feel rough or look uneven, and it may not improve with over-the-counter solutions.

At VITAHL Medical Aesthetics, we work with patients in Thompson Station and College Grove, TN, who are looking for ways to address these changes, but don’t want the hassle of long downtimes. As your skin continues to age, oil production, elasticity, and cellular turnover can shift, but we have treatments that can help smooth the skin’s surface and reduce the look of enlarged pores.

About Enlarged Pores and Texture Concerns

Causes

Pore size is largely determined by genetics, but other factors can influence how visible they become as you get older. A decline in collagen production can reduce structural support around the pores, making them appear larger. Dead skin buildup, excess oil, and chronic sun exposure can also make the skin look rough and uneven, while repeated inflammation from acne or improper skin care may lead to long-term changes in texture.

Natural aging can also change the way the skin behaves and emphasize texture irregularities. Surface irregularities can make the skin feel rougher and cause the surface to look less smooth. Even small shifts in texture and appearance can be frustrating if skincare products and routines are doing nothing to improve your concerns.

Signs

Enlarged pores are common on areas like the nose, cheeks, and chin, but can be present anywhere. They look like small indentations across the surface of the skin. If the pores are clogged, they will be even more noticeable, even when you apply makeup. Texture changes can include rough patches, a dull tone, leathery skin, or uneven areas that cause makeup to look less even. You may notice that your skin feels less smooth than it once did or that your skincare and sunscreen products no longer absorb as easily.

Enlarged Pores and Skin Texture Treatment Options

SkinPen® Microneedling

Microneedling with our SkinPen device creates thousands of microchannels in the skin to trigger a natural repair response. The process stimulates collagen and elastin, which support smoother skin and more refined pores. It can be considered when you want a big pores solution that does not use heat or chemicals. SkinPen microneedling offers results across the face, neck, and chest without a long downtime.

Radiofrequency Microneedling

While traditional microneedling targets the surface, radiofrequency microneedling adds controlled heat below the surface of the skin. Radiofrequency energy contracts and tightens the existing collagen fibers and also stimulates a stronger collagen response to firm the skin around the pores. This large pore treatment can be used in a series of appointments to promote long-term collagen stimulation. We use a device called Secret RF for our radiofrequency microneedling treatments.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels can improve the texture of the skin by removing dull or damaged layers. They can help reduce buildup that settles in pores and soften rough patches that make the skin appear uneven. Depending on the formulation, peels may also target pigment and tone irregularities, and wrinkles and fine lines. Large pores on the face can appear smaller when the pores are free of oil and debris, and when the skin around them is healthier. We offer both superficial and medium peels from the Prodigy Peel Systems by iS Clinical.

Laser Genesis

Laser Genesis delivers non-ablative heat to the upper dermis of the skin using micro-pulses of light. This laser facial process can gradually refine the skin’s texture and improve diffuse redness while also helping to minimize the visibility of pores on the face in regions like the cheeks or nose. Treatments are typically spaced out to allow for gradual changes without extended downtime.

Moxi

Moxi uses a gentle fractionated, non-ablative laser to resurface the upper layers of the skin. It can help reduce signs of aging and sun damage while supporting collagen renewal. The treatment may improve skin tone, texture, and pore appearance across different areas of the face, and can refine skin texture for a wide range of skin types.
